An American Childhood
Annie Dillard
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris

A collection of presumed autobiographical essays. Most of the situations are quite funny, only a few are not. The first essay has to do with visiting the school speech therapist and the utter futility of the effort. There is an essay with a hilarious dialogue occurring on a Paris Metro train.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot

A story of HeLa cells--the first human cells successfully grown as a cell line. These cells have been involved in many important discoveries in modern medicine including the vaccine for polio and discovery of the link between HVP and cervical cancer.

The dives into some of the issues related to ownership of cells after they have been removed from a persons body. Interestingly John Hopkins Hospital is perceived in this case as a "bad guy" yet they made no money from the cell line, and have as part of their charter helping indigent people by providing health care.
